Mission Impossible.

Mission: To address dad by his name. In his face.
I umm…I was asked to do something “socially subversive” for one of my classes. After thinking for hours on end, I came up with this idea of addressing somebody older by his/her name. I narrowed down my option to dad because it seemed like a greater challenge. I knew he’d totally understand if I told him I only did it for my homework.
I failed. I don’t know why, but I just..... couldn’t. It was almost as if there was this invisible force that held me from uttering that one simple name.
Later on, I just went up to him and told him about the assignment. He realized he couldn’t call grandpa by his name either.
well, i wouldnt be able to bring myself to call my dad by his name either. it's natural, i guess.
so it seems...and yet, isnt it amazing?
I think it is incredible thing that we can call gods by their names but not our parents'
very much indeed. funny thing is, it wouldnt be so difficult for me to call my mom by hers. but my dad? not so easy. it's something a father has...or is.
i think. :)
It's interesting how you described it as socially subversive. I'm asian but grew up in North America and I always thought there was something totally unwholesome about my friends who called their parents or any of their elders by their first names.
